Busting Hearing Aid Myths

The Better Hearing Institute continues to be a leader in the hearing loss field.  They are a wealth of information for anyone who suffers from hearing loss, or who has a loved one who suffers from hearing loss.

Digital hearing aids have opened up opportunities for individuals with hearing loss over the last few years that just weren't available in the past.  Because new technology just isn't understood by much of the public, some myths related to hearing aids still persist.  There is a great article by the Better Hearing Institute that we recommend.  We'll summarize a few points here.

Myth:  Your doctor would tell you if you had hearing loss

Fact:  Less than 2 out of 10 doctors regularly screen for hearing loss.  That means that there's an 80% chance that you haven't received a proper hearing loss screen.  

Myth: Hearing aids are big and bulky and noticeable

Fact:  new designs and technology make hearing aids nearly undetectable in a lot of cases.
